Philip Bastow specialises in the design and handmade composition of individually tailored furniture using oak, ash, sycamore and elm - all sought from professionally and eco-friendly maintained woodland, using British hardwoods wherever possible.

From the initial concept to the design and careful selection of the timber, to the final polish and hand wax, using his keen eye. Just look at the current projects he is working on.

Few people have the natural ability to see into the heart of the wood  and see what that tree is destined to become. They say that a true artist doesn't make the wood into an object but sets the object free from the inside of the wood.

The attention to detail is thorough and dedicated to the passion of working with such marvellous traditional techniques. Whatever piece of furniture you choose, Philip Bastow has cared for it and brought it to life.

An ideal title to explain a little of where I live and work, which is the Swaledale village of Reeth, a village located in the idyllic countryside of the North Yorkshire Dales, located at the crossing point of the river Swale and the Arkle.

Made famous by the James Herriot vet series which was filmed in the area. It is well worth a visit to this most beautiful part of the Yorkshire Dales - just make sure you pop by the shop.
